I have a soft tanned bear hide that was done evidently for a rug, because the lips are turned and still attached and the ears and eyes were turned. It has already been stretched, dried, and sanded. Is it safe to rehydrate "just" the head and mount it, or should I leave it as is.

I do it all the time for my rug work. I rehydrate the paws and the head only.
