I see Wooly Mammoth hair and bones for sale all the time, and was wondering if you can freely buy and sell parts from extinct animals since they are already long past the "endangered" stage? Does anyone know of any regulations or laws regarding such or where I can find the info?
Thank you.

Depends where you are. In Canada stuff like that is regulated and you can't. In the States stuff like that is generally fair game as long as it was legally harvested. For example the T rex "Sue" was not taken wsith permission of the rightful land owner (in that case the US government) so problems arose.

States have the right to claim items as historical artifacts...depending on how rare it is. I assume the federal gov. has that right also. Most extinct animals for sale are not considered to be considered as such. Sold my Passenger Pigeon after I convinced the state Archivalist(?) that I could, since it was extinct before the laws were passed and that there are thousands of them around. My cousin does scrimshaw on Mammoth teeth, since whale bone is hard to come by.
Are NOT considered wildlife under Federal Law. HOWEVER, as stated above, there are antiquities issues in many states as well as other countries around the world. Things like dinos and even meteorites are protected in many countries.
