HI! I hope somebody can help me.
I am doing a project at school which will hypathetically involves the display of 2 X mammals and 3x birds. Would anybody know the light level, temperature and humidity that these animals should be kept at in a glass display? Also what would be the basic maintenance on mammals and birds.
Looking forward to your response,
K Wiltshire :)

It is best to keep things at room temperature, but if a mount is properly preserved, the mount itself should not be a problem to extreme cold or hot. The display glass however, would be, unless you display them in tempered, 1/4" or thicker glass. Any type of lighting is best if you choose something that is closest to natural light, such as led, or flourescant, etc., Incondescant and any other unnatural type of lighting should almost never be used because the excessive heat could cause a fire, and cause fading of the painted areas that were painted, and sometimes discolor the fur. Maintenance on mammals and birds is quite simple. The best way to preserve them is in a sealed, air tight, glass display case. If you choose not to use this method, it would be best to air blow both the mammals and birds, and clean the eyes with windex to keep the dust off those areas. Be careful when air blowing the birds because you can cause feathers to detach if you use too high of air pressure. Good luck
Hi there,
cheers! Thanks for the info, it will be put to good use.

...and thanks for your response back.
Flouescent lighting tends to fade things faster than incandescent. A little research into lighting might come up with a light form that is not a problem(or at least a minimal problem) in this area. If there is any way that they can be kept in an airconditioned area that would be best, the humidity would be lowered by the airconditioning. Overall the glass case is the single most important factor in maintaining the condition of the mounts as dust will deteriorate the mounts faster than anything else.
with old fart, keep away from fluro light and if possible house behind plexi glass which filters more uv light than does traditional glass. Also caphor sticks, napthalene or moth balls in the cabinet is a useful practice against bug infestation.
