Mildew on Caracal Pelt Rug! NEED HELP.. How to Clean?

Submitted by Regina Bales on 06/25/2004 at 17:28. ( bales197@hotmail.com ) 63.155.220.54

Detected water in the basement too late to prevent caracal pelt rug on top of carpeting from becoming mildewed... Can anyone advise as to how to clean? These pelts are over 20 years old but in very good condition..... They do not have anything attached to the back of the pelts such as felt or any other material.. Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks for your time.

Alcohol

A few years ago, when we were cleaning up the flood damaged trophies from the Grand Forks ND area we used Methyl Alcohol. Some of the stuff was in flooded basements for days and we managed to save some of it. Bear rugs went into the barrel of alcohol and then drained and hung up to dry. I would think a good sponging of alcohol on the skin side and then hang it up to dry and your problems should be solved.

Right on
