Grey Fox Question?

Submitted by Gary on 8/4/04 at 11:48 AM. ( ) 207.69.138.142

I mounted a grey fox 2 1/2 weeks ago, now that I am getting ready to do the finishing detail it seems that when I comb it it is shedding quit a bit of the long hair an its back and tail, there was almost no slippage of hair on it, only one small spot on inside of one ear, should I just let it set a little longer? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Gary, personally I would give it more time. Dont know exactly why you are combing it, I just blow mine with the dryer from a distance and it makes the hair lay much more natural.

Some is natural

but what is quite a bit? If its coming out by the hand full, stop combing. If is not too much then it's probably ok. For a fox, you need to back comb it to get the hair to stand up and make the animal look filled out. I always use a coarse steel comb and back comb the tangles out. Sometimes a use a grooming spray for dogs to ease the combing process.

the hair isnt coming out by handfulls, it is like its just shedding some hair, i dont want the owner to pick pick it up and take home with it shedding like it is still alive, I will give it another week or two and then see how it is doing.
