but i think you can get latex in laquer and waterbased. Like i said i'm no expert so i'm not sure. But i am sure of one thing, there is alot of good info in the archives. Go to the orange button in the left hand column and search for topics such as "cleaning airbrush" or "airbrush care", I know JohnC has written many times explaining how to thin paints and use retarder, to prevent clogging in the tips, and i think that is your problem. So clean it good, then study up on how to mix your paint. Some people dip their tips in alcohol or laquer thinner( alcohol for waterbased paint and laquer thinner for laquer based paint) to free up their tip after they stop spraying paint, cause if you ever stop your stream then restart that is when the paint is drying in you tip and causing you problems. You are probably getting it cleaned then almost instantly clogging it again. First thing is to find out what type of paint you have.
Water = alcohol, windex, water
Laquer = laquer thinner, acetone, gas, mineral spirits
Good luck and trust me the rel experts have written many a time on airbrushing and you will learn ALOT fromt he archives.
I use latex paint quite a bit. If you like latex get rid of the Aztec. If you like your Aztec stop using latex. Iwata, Paasche or Badger will work better for you IMAO.
David,
I just went through the same thing. I bought a bunch of latex paint from Jonas to do some african work as they have some great colors that are low gloss and really mirror african game skin tones. I had a devil of a time getting the paint clear my Paashe gun though. So here's what i did. I changed needles from the H-1 to the H-5 and that helped, but not enough. So I started increasing the pressure and finally ended up using 100psi and that also helped, but not enough. So I called Jonas and they said that a recent batch of their latex paint had come out "thicker" than it should. They apologized and sent me a complimentary bottle of "Latex Thinner". That did the trick. Use a bigger needle, increase your pressure, and use LATEX THINNER. Laquer thinner should not be used with latex paint as it is a water based paint.
By the way, I love the latex paint for its colors, but it is more difficult to use (IMO) than laquer, but it is safer. The pieces I was working on turned out great with good color even on thin haired game like kudu and eland.
Hope this helps
Hugh
