Why would anyone use dextrine?

It escapes me what possible reason a person could have to use such an inferior product with the superior supplies we have out there today. Dextrine worked to some degree when we had paper mannikins as it was the stuff that stuck most of the paper together in the first place, but with the polyfoam forms of today, it simply will not now, never, ever adhere. It may hold the skin down by suction until the skin dries, but if you cut the hide, it will peel right away. Just doesn't make sense to me.

George You need a workshop on using dextrine based hide paste with foam.
You keep saying your work isn't too good. Thats probably because you can't "taxi' the skin with those high falutin expensive epoxy pastes, made from OIL by products. The cost of those are going up too.
God help the taxidermist that "can't get that price in their area".
It will be back to paper and dextrine for these guys.

Dextine works but as mentioned there are better products

Yellow dextrine and mix it with boiling water and blend the lumps out.

Dont bother with adding whiting and other useless fillers.

Gary, with Epo-Grip you can move the hide just like with dextrine.

PLUS YOU DONT HAVE TO PIN.

cant afford dextrine

in this buisness time is money, when you consider the time it takes to mix it up, clean up the mess you make cleaning up after you make a batch, you are far better off paying for one the far more superior hide pastes on the market today.

I have tried to pull the skin off,

Of a mount that I used dextrine hide paste, It is near to impossible.
First you would have to soak the whole manikin in a stock tank for 2 days then you still have to fight like hell to get it all off.

Of coarse I use a stout Ruiffer to scratch every form before aplying the hide paste.

I have pulled apart a couple of my first mounts that I used the Elmers Glue type of hide paste that you get at Research & makinzie & even being scratched they come right apart if you soak up the whole mount.

I mix up 4 to one Dextrine & Dry Potters Clay using Hot water to blend them , Then add a little Lysol.

mix them till you get a Peanut Butter texture.

This stuff can glue yuor car in place IF IT IS USED PROPERLY.

Take care.
