Need a Professional tip on artificial nose painting

Submitted by Mike B. on 9/19/04 at 6:34 PM. ( ) 64.118.126.78

I have done many artificial noses, but am unhappy with painting results ,mainly wild boars as just a small scratch on the nose shows the base color that the noses are before they are painted.Am I not putting enough coats on? Am I not putting a base coat on properly? Please give me some advise to help me on this matter. Thanks guys and gals.

Nose painting

Paint doesn't take a real tenacious bond to urethane casting mediums, but there are a few things you can do.First, whenever possible, buy noses with a base color as close to the real thing as you can find.In other words,if you need a bear nose and someone sells a white one and someone sells a black one-get the black one.Secondly, you should always scour the nose before painting. This roughs up the surface on a microscopic level and removes any mold release or oil from hands.I like to use a waterless handcleaner for this such as "Gojo".You can also use Comet or Ajax cleansers.Thirdly, laquer paints adhere better than water base on these plastics(always use a respirator). And last but most importantly-don't scratch the nose after you paint it!

Thank You Jim
