Krowtann neuralizing ratio for 50" ls black bear

Submitted by Ed on 9/20/04 at 4:09 PM. ( ) 64.12.116.207

How many ounces of baking soda are needed to do an adequate netralizing without over doing it?

Small life-size black bear approx. 50"
For mixing the soulution it says to add three times the amounts for ls black bear would this also include using three times the amount of baking soda to neutralize?

I've gone through a zillion krowtann post in the archives , I didn't see this or if it's there I missed it. Perhaps used wrong keywords?

Thanks!

Ed, you neutralize Krowtann one once at a time.

Better read the intsructions on the bottle.

Add one ounce of Sodium Bicarb. to the water, in 15 monutes and another and so on.

If in doubt call Ozark Woods 870-743-6555

its not the amount.....

of baking soda per animal but the amount per gallon of water - just do a direct proportion from any of the meas. on the sheet - in other words you can neutralize a squirrel skin in 50 gallons of water but the ratio of baking soda to water has to be the same

caution baking soda

BE VERY CAREFUL with the baking soda,to much will cause hide swell, and your skin can fall apart.

Ed, I dont know if youll get this in time, three days after your post but Ill put it in anyway. Ive done about a dozen bears in Krowtann, and I use six gallons of water and nine ounces of baking soda. Three ounces to begin with, three in five minutes, three in another five minutes, then leave in for a total of 20 minutes. Then wash in Tide, rinse well, drain, final flesh, wash in Tide again, rinse, drain, tumble, measure and ready to mount or freeze. Good luck Ed
