Wolverine Rug question

Submitted by UnTaxman on 10/6/04 at 1:11 PM. ( ) 24.136.173.56

A quick question.. Are most Wolverines Pelts you find (is it typical) for them to be cut so that they can be used for Rugs (wallhanging)? I see them on E-bay, etc and they look pretty much alike..

What does cased mean?

Thanks a million. Once I find a suitable pelt, I'll be off to a Taxidermist to get it rugged.

Tanks again !

Cased Skinned

Cased skined, also known as tube skinned is where they cut accross from one back leg, under the tail to the other back leg. (accross the back-side so to speak)

Three different major cuts

Most lifesize animals like wolverines are skinned out using one of the three most used methods:

Dorsal cut: meaning the cut is made on the back of the animal running from just behind the ears to the base of the tail.

Case cut: animal is cut along the back legs and tubed out like a sock.

Belly cut: animal is cut along the belly and the inside of the legs so it lays flat after it is skinned.

The belly cut is what you are looking for for a rugmount. A case cut skin can easily be turned into a belly cut skin since this would be just a continuation of the cutting process. A dorsal cut skin could be turned into a bellycut skin but it would require sewing up the dorsal cut first. Try and find a bellycut skin as this would be the easiest for the taxidermist to take care of.
