Is there a formula to determine the live weight of a bear after the entrails, head, feet and hide are removed from the carcass? (of which the weight would be known.) Thanks.

I have heard it said, depending on when and how much it might have ate, add, 20% to 30%, to the dressed weight.
Well Dan,we were curious about weight loss in these specimens also so we did check one.Now this particular animal was field dressed when it came in.The state claims a 17% loss in weight for field dressing. When this bear came in we weighed it and it was 465 pounds. We then skinned it,removed the head ,hide and feet and the thickes fat from the back.We then reweighed it and it was 230 pounds. So without the innard loss we had better than a 50% loss just in the parts we took off.We also process and ALWAYS get the question "where's the rest of my meat".That was the reason for the check.
