i have been reading through the archives on mounting a life-size porcupine and still have a few questions. it sounds like the ventral incision is the best to use.
what is the best tanning method? after it is fleshed should it be salted, pickled, degreased and then tanned with liqua tanned or lutan f? or is dp an acceptable method?
finally, i am assuming the answer to this one is no but is it ok to tumble or will the quills fall out?

I mounted a porcupine earlier this year -- what a prickly job! It's definately not something I would want to mount every day but they turn out looking really cool.
YES, go with the ventral incision. This is one animal you don't want to use a dorsal cut, Lol!
With mine I salted, pickled, degreased, and liqua tanned. You might want to try Krowtan. I have begun using it for most of my stuff, and being that it is an almost all-in-one tan, it would reduce the amount of handling while tanning (and your chances of getting "pricked"!).
And no tumbling! After oiling mine I just let it drip dry for a while and then mounted.
