Summer Beaver vs./ Winter beaver

Is there a difference in mounting a beaver with winter fur and one with summer fur. I've been in taxidermy a few years but haven't handled a beaver.I know that on a summer deer you have to be careful of hide blemishes because there isn't alot of thick hair to cover up. I just need a simple answer from some "beaver people".

I can tell you not to worry you will have lots of beaver in your future. There is not much diferance between the two though you might have to rub her feet and talk softly to her in the winter ans then just slip it in.

Good luck,

Hey Slick, take a look at the forum rules. To everyone else, I'd like to get an honest answer from my first posting.

Yes, there's a big difference

The winter beaver have "prime" hides. That means the heavier winter wool has grown under the guard hairs and it's always much plusher than the summer hide. If you want a beaver to really strut its stuff, get a late winter one, tan it and then back brush it so that the individual guard hairs are supported by the underfur.
