Bruce R. or other greasy critter helpers

I have a groundhog, and other things, that I salted and had been hanging. Rock hard, for a few months. I put them in and relaxed, I washed kinda quickly in Dawn and rinsed, it was a bit on the nasty side, but the yote was bloodier. Then put in Saftee Acid pickle.3 days later when I pulled it out, grounghog, it still looks like I just put it in from being relaxed. The innermost skin layer is like parchment almost. I added tannery degreaser on the second day, to see if it would help any, not a lot of good.
There is no plump to the groundhog and the head feels like it would rip very easily if I pulled very much. Still hard enough, that I could knock out a few of the guys in here with it! : )
What's the deal? Do I need to leave it in a degreaser longer before I ever put it in the pickle to begin with?
Someone will probably want to shoot me over this next thing, but I went ahead and added more "super solvent" this time to it and some acid bate.
Got any helpful suggestions? Just leave in longer or add something to the relaxing besides just the salt?
Come on Bruce! I'm your problem child! Help me out here! or somebody!
Glad to see everyone is still their "gripey, one-sided" selves! It shows all the TRUE ARTISTS that are still hanging around in here.
Thanks
