I would like to know what some of you charge for shoulder mount Elk and a 1/2 lifesize Black Bear? Bear is only about a 125 Lbs. I am in central Ohio. I am not sure what i should charge for these, most of my work is Whitetail's.

If you are a professional taxidermist that produces good commercial quality work, then here's how to figure up your price.
ELK
Forms, eyes, ears, shipping $165
Tanning and shipping $165 (Figure this in, even if you tan your own)
Hide paste, clay, paint, etc. $15
Shop rent, utilities, etc. $25 $750 per month / 30 mounts per month (again, charge this even if you own your shop outright)
Labor (10 hrs x $30 per hour) $300
Total=$655 plus profit of at least 10% ($72)
Grand Total=$727
This is the absolute minimum I would charge. Now, if you use a cheaper form, or you can save shipping costs by combining orders, you might be able to get away a little cheaper. On the other hand, if your overhead (supplies, utilities, and rent) is higher than what I listed, you need to charge more. Also, if you are full time and self-employed, you need to figure in extra $ for your retirement, self-employment taxes, and your health insurance.
You can use this formula to calculate costs for any species. Hope it helps!
i like to think that i am a good taxidermist. I have a full time job, but last year i mounted 60 Whitetail deer with 60 satisfied customers. I have entered 2 mounts in the state show and got a first and a second in the professional division. I still have a lot to learn but i am always trying to get better. I always use high quality materials and never cut corners. Thanks again
Sounds like you're a professional to me. One more piece of advice, don't price yourself lower than your competitors. It only hurts the industry. Be proud of yourself and your work. Good luck!
