badger project

I am a beginning taxidermist and have been asked to do my first badger mount. What, do u smart fellows, suppose would be a fair price to charge for it(an open mouth mount)? Also after I skin this critter, do I just flesh and salt before sending it to a tanner, or is there some sort of degreasing that needs to be done at this time. Thanks Branden

When doing a badger, like any other animal in the weasel family they have two scent glands on each side of the anus. Be real careful not to cut into the glands. It'll be an experience you wont forget for a long time. Other than the glands just skin it as usual, split the eyes, lips and turn the ears. Remove all the fat and red meat, then salt it down. After the hide has been salted twice, send it out to your tannery.

That is what my price would be. $300.00 for the mount and $150.00 extra for the open mouth work. Also if it is with a habitat charge accordingly.
