Hi all!I just mounted my first skunk and I was wondering if any of you could tell me how long should I soak the skin in tomato and vinegar to get the smell out?I know its to late to do anything about my mount now ,but it still has that lingering smell and I was just wanting to know for the next one I tackle.I took this skin and washed it in soapy water then put it in baking soda, poroxcide, dish soap for a little while then put it in the tomato and vinager solution for a bit and then finley put it in a pail of water with some Van Dykes stuff thats for getting rid of the smell. But the little bugger still has a distict odar to him. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

I did one a bit ago, it had a hit of smell while mounting, but as it dried out, and the moisture left, the oder went away. Spray it down with Fabreze and let it dry out.
A proved skunk smell remover is:
1 quart of peroxide
1 cup of baking soda
1 tablespoon of liquid soap
Skunk essence is an acid, so you need a base to kill it. I do not know however if the peroxide will bleach the fur of a skunk. Maybe try on a road killed skunk, or a small patch in the white areas.
