I have been researching the finishing of a beaver tail I have and would like to make into a knife shieth or bag. I have read several
things that make me believe this process is very difficult - but I am ready to tackle it. Most responses I have read are to throw the tail out or get a fake one. I will not be discouraged - please help! Margot

I don't guess it would do any good to ask, "WHY?", would it. The only "difficult" thing about a beaver tail is to get it fleshed properly. You're only going to get "flats" from both sides, however, in that the edge of the tail simply will not flatten out. Shave all the fat and cartilage out of it and tan as usual.
