how do you skin a raccoon im just starting and i wanted to know how to skin one?

Invest in the Breakthrough mammal taxidermy book. If you do not know how to skin a coon this book will be well worth the money to you.

what i do,,,1) pry mouth open and take a sharp knife or scalpe and cut around the gums as close to the teeth as possible.2) i cut from the foot pad of one hind foot ,down the leg, and between the anus and the tail,strait up the other hind foot and stop at the foot pad 3) i sever the feet at the ankles 4) peel the hide back around the the legs and work it free around the base of the tail and up the belly as far as you can 5) sever the tail as close to the body as you can 6) i then hang the coon on a chain that hangs from my ceiling with a hook , and pull the skin down the body ,,if the skin sticks use a knife cutting the membrane between the skin and the meat 7) the front legs should pull out pretty easy,,skin them as far down the toes as you can,clip off the toe bones with side cutters , leave enough that you can grab onto later 8) pull the skin tight around the skull using you knife or scalpel right against the skull especailly around the ears,,, stick your fingers in the ears and around the eyes as you skin the head this will let you know where you are cutting 9) clip the shin off at the carliege in the nose 10) lay the skin out flat on a table and split the tail and remove the bone,,,with needle nose pliers pull on the toe bones one by one cutting the membrane around the bones until you are down to the last joint,,, the one with the toenail,,,split the lips and ears and remove the carteige from the nose and you are done,,,,,,flesh and salt then the next day repeat the salting process .,,,,as the hide dries out order the Breakthrough manual,,,,,,,,,,,,hope this helps,,,jim
