Coon Help

With a coon hide, is tanning needed? Can you just salt or freeze the hide? To preserve paws and ears, do you just scrape out the flech and salt?

Confused.

thanks for the help.

DP

DP is dry preservative sold through most all of the taxidermy supply stores. They also sell degreasers but the easiest and cheapest way I've found is to soak the hide in coleman lantern fuel. Just put the hide in a bucket and soak the hide for a couple of hours (outside and away from flames of course) The fuel will take the grease and oils of the pelt and your hands if you get it on you. then wash the hide with dawn dishwashing detergent, followed by pert shampoo. that will clean it up and condition the hair for you when you comb it out.

thanks a million

So do you flesh your coon and put them directly in the Coleman fuel? What next after washing? This sounds interesting. Thanks
