I have a set of Moose antlers someone varnished or stained and I don't mind the dark, but I'm trying to remove the shine. The shine looks bad, anyone have any recommendations on removing the shinyness?
Thank you all !

On what type of varnish was used. You can probably cut down the shine with #0000 steel wool dipped in mineral spirits. Just wipe down well, let dry and see what happens. Not enough? You can remove the varnish if you want to, or after rubbing down with the mineral spirts, you can spray a coat of Krylon Matte clear onto the entire antler surface. The rub down will have given some "tooth" to the surface, and the Krylon will then bond, even to urethane finishes.
Good luck
Would try 000 steel wool in a hidden area to see if any scratches formed first and if they did I would try some Johnson floor wax(paste)to see if the scratches would hide, if any they should then have just a lite luster. I don't Know what lacquer thinner or acetone would do to the stain. could try them in a non noticeable area too. I got some 5min epoxy off of a set of elk antlers with a wire brush but wouldn't have tried that over a large area.
I had a set of moose antlers with about 2 coats of high gloss varnish and i rubbed the remover on an area about 10 inches square at a time let it bubble the old stain then used a small wire brush to remove the old finish takes a while to do the whole set but worked well with no damage to the antler
