Coyote tail

Ok I got a coyote to mount the other day. I skinned it out and evrything went perfect. Then I got to the tail. I cut right down the bottom side of the tail to the tip. Pulled the hide away on both sides. Then I started to pull the bone out. I got half way down the tail, and guess what happened. Yes thats right I ripped the thing right in half. I skinned fox and coon before and didn't have this probelm. This was my first coyote. I am sending it out to get tanned. I was wondering what I should do with the other half of the tail. Should I tan it myself or send it with the rest of the coyote? And when Im ready to mount it should I just sew the tail back together, I mean will it look ok? Any help with an e-mail to me would be good. Thanks

It will sew up fine. Just make sure you line up any hair patterns and take your time.

Skinning tails

For next time I recomend that you buy a tail stripper. Handy little tool for removing the tail meat and bones BEFORE you split the tail skin. Just pull out the tail then cut the empty tail open-no tears, no repairs. Enjoy, Aaron H.
