am shippinga mt lion from illinois to texas - will i need to construct crating or is it available from most shippers

...have to crate it yourself.One way is to use 1/2" wafer board.You then use 2"x2"'s as uprights in the four corners and a 2"x2" lengthwise where side meets top and side meets bottom ie. four of those.Screw it all together.These days lumber is expensive.You have to charge for crating.You generally want to get $200.00 or so for a lion crate and you won't be making a killing.Good luck.

I learned this as well. Take 2-2"x4"s and screw them to the bottom of the crate so that it lifts the crate up 4"s. That way when the crate gets loaded and unloaded, the guy driving the forklift doesnt ram the skids against your crate trying to get them underneath it! You basically create a pallet that way and it makes for safer shipping.

a lightweight pallet and build up on it. That works great for shipping elk. We build a frame around the whole thing, with inside braces too, and then cover it with clear plastic sheeting. We have found that if the shippers can see what they're handling, they are more careful with it (USUALLY).
