I have some capes here that have some holes that are small slits that were cut accidentally with a knife. Does anyone know what is the best thread and needle to use for this job so that way the hole won't be noticeable. Also when is the best time to sow up the pelt when its real dry or just moist or wet.

Use the smallest needle and thread combo that will securely close the cut hide. Also, a lot will depend on where the cut areas are located on the cape. For example, you wouldn't use the same needle/thread combo to repair a cut eyelid as you would for a split briskit. Only you know where the damage is located.
Your hide should be soaked up and pliable before sewing the holes.

Matthew, A couple more things on sewing- thin the skin down well at the repair site to minimize any "puckering" effect and use a good adhesive under the repair. Round holes should be trimmed to a "football" shape before sewing which makes the skin come together with less stress on the hair making it less noticable. Remember to do all stretching of the skin before sewing holes so you don't tear appart what you sewed together. Enjoy, Aaron H.
