Any help would be appreciated with this. I was given two small grizzly bear rugs by a customer, their cubs I suspect as their about 5 ft long. These are both obviously vintage, I was told they were mounted in the 60's. He wants me to sell one for him and keep the other. My first question is as a licensed taxidermist can I posses these and/or legally sell them? My next question pertains to value. I have only worked with black/brown bears and have no idea what a fair price would be for this rug. Thanks again guys...Mark

Animals. I would get an Affidavit from your customer stating origin and year and other documentation and go from there. Your state laws may apply, but I have no clue about them. As long as the bears were legally taken and documented, you can have them. Selling them is a question for what is and isn't legal in your state. the documentation should cover Federal Law.
After that post, I did a quick search for Federal CFR's pertaining to Grizzlies and came up empty. I did however find this:
Differences in state laws makes the implementation of the CITES treaty difficult, for example, 25 states have legal Black Bear hunting, 10 states have no bear hunting and no sale of parts, 7 do not have legal hunting but allow the sale of parts which originate elsewhere and 8 have nor regulations specific to the trade of bear parts.
Better check your state law as I said in the first post.
my good friend is DNR and I came up empty there since we dont have grizzly's in MI. Thanks for the help though....Mark
