My granddaddy trap for years and thought me, coons aren't picky when it comes to eating but can be when it comes to getting food, if their is something about the trap being used then he may not go for it, like I said he's not picky and would rather getit from somewhere else, make sure your bait is fresh, trap is big enough and I try to hide my sent as much as possible, and the trap too, cover top with leaves, I've even watch a coon that would use a stick to set the trap turn it on it's side and eat sardines through the side, don't under estimate how smart these critters can be.

not Jimmy from Mississippi?
I'm still chunkin' rocks at male squirrels with my feet ! LOL
Coons are smart buggers though . I was camping once and cooking chicken on a grate over the fire . A coon decided that this was his dinner and not mine. He did proceed to use a stick to drag my dinner off and away from the fire . I thought about chasing him down and fighting for my food but figured I would lose that fight . LOL Bradlee
Opossums ya just need an empty garbage can with some table scraps . They check in but they don't check out .LOL Bradlee
