Coyote?

A friend just brought me an animal, and I'm really not sure what the heck it is. I live in Southern Indiana. The animal has the face and ears of a coyote (although the nose is kinda of short). The face doesn't look like any dog I have ever seen. The tail isn't long or bushy. The animal is a reddish-blonde color and the hair isn't straight. The hair is sorta wavy. It might go 25 lbs. He brought it thinking is was a "blonde" coyote. I really have no idea. Any suggestions?

Was it wearing a Med-alert bracelet? Could be a refugee from the dawg pound too.....Most coy-dogs carry enough coyote genes to make them look like coyotes. When you skin it, check the alimentary tract....if it is full of ALPO, guess what?

So far the responses have been so very helpful.... Are there any characteristics that this animal would have to have if it were a coyote (eye color, dew claw, etc.) Probably not, but just thought I would throw it out there. I found a picture of a coyote pup and this things face looks just like one (short nose and ear size). But I think it is too big to be in that phase.

Dear Justin,
I believe what you may have is a special cross, it is seen throu SOuthern INdiana. I am familer with a study on breeding tiger and lions in NOrthersn Indiana, So far they have been some what successfull.
Breeding their Ligers.
IF I were you I would pat the gent who gave it to you on the back, take him out to eat, amd a round of golf.
Not many people out there willing to be made a laughing stock so you can practice you taxidermy..
