Hello guys, I am doing the finish work on my first bear. What is the best way to lay the bear hair down nicely. What color do you guys use inside of the nostrils. I have photos and it appears almost pink. I have an open mouth bear what color is that greyish part of the lip. It almost looks like the paynes grey I use on fish but am not sure. Finally do you just put a little magic sculp in the 1/32'" seam between the real lip and the jaw set. Thanks for all of your input.

I don't lay the hair down on bears. Instead I fluff the hair with compressed air. I do this for the first week everyday after its mounted. This gives the bear a real nice full look. I use red flesh color inside the nose and paynes grey on the outside. I use artificial noses on all my bears. I use brown appoxie sculpt to blend the skin line to the nose and then mist some dark brown over that to blend that seam. I use black appoxie sculpt for the seam between the jaw set and lip line. If you have any light spots of skin under the hair you can and I do use a can of black sprey paint you can buy it at any taxidermy supply. I can't think of the name of the stuff right off the top of my head. I use dark brown around the eyes on black bears. These things work well for me. I hope that I have helped you. Jack F
Sorry Aaron I left out the lips. I use the same flesh on the lips as in the nose. I cover the lips in flesh then I mist on paynes grey untill I get the look I want to match my reference photos.
Can I still stand the hair up on the bear if its been mounted for three weeks?
It should fluff up alright. Hit it with about 80 pounds of air presure from back to front.
it's nice to have good ol boys around like you!
