i got a dryer today and it spins at 44 rpms and was wondering if it was to fast or should i change the pulley to get fewer rpms. i converted it to a 110 volt.
and by the way i am only a teenager and cannot afford a real tumbler so don't tell me to stop being cheap and riggin something up that is not as good as the real thing.
i will mainly be doin small mammals but want to try mounting birds this spring maybe.

bruce Rittel offers plans for making a tumbler out of dryers. You would prolly find they come in handy. However i know this question is answered very in depth in the archives, i ain't experienced enough to explain but i know i skimmed over it in the archives on day, something about arbors and stuff.
No one is going to give you a hard time for doing the best with what you have, but you could lose the snotty attitude, it kinda deters some people from helping.
i have the plans and they are for a commercial dryer and it doesnt say about reducing rpms at all.
i will try to find the post i was talking about for ya...

I've heard guys say that they put the hide in a plastic garbage can with hardwood chips and roll it around for a while in the yard. Could be a short term solution.

Matt if your skins are not tumbling properly, change the pully to slow it down to 30 rpm. dryers normaly run at about 30 rpm and should be OK
for small skins.
