i am goin to mount a gray fox and the habitat available for mounts is scarce. There is not very many different types or rocks, foam bases, or wooden logs for sale. What i wanted was like a log that i could mount the fox to. I have already done mounts with rocks and foam bases and i want to try something different. Do you know where i can get a wooden log. I probaly cant use a real one due to bugs right. if any of you know of a good site that has lots of habitat besides the main ones like McKenzie WASCO Van Dykes Jonas.

I'm thinking of useing a wooden fence post on its side, just an idea.
You can use many of the natural woods available. All the cedars work especially well, but so will walnut and especially sassafras. Another great one is locust, though you'd better have a sharp chainsaw and patience as it's one tough wood to cut. Any seasoned log, bugproofed should be good. Afterall, unless the house has bugs already, what's to infect it after it's been treated by you?
Matt, I use lots of natural wood in my mounts- bugs don't seem to be an issue to me. If you can't find a log like you want you can make it. You just need a log or tree with texture to your liking and some liquid latex. Make a mold of the surface with the latex, let cure, peal away. Prepare a base to support the new log surface out of lumber and foam, apply a layer of bondo mixed for slow set, press on the latex mold and let it stay till the bondo kicks. Sounds involved but it's quite easy. Your mold can be made over any log and then flattened out to accomodate your fox form, spraying the latex mold with Armorall just before applying to the bondo makes removal easier and you can reuse the mold in different shapes as needed. Or you can just got for a walk and find some nice natural piece for the fox. If you check in the habitat section or the search you can find lots of ideas for fox bases. Enjoy, Aaron H.
