Texas Bobcats?

Submitted by Lee on 2/27/05 at 12:12 PM. ( )

I was wondering what the regulations were on a texas bobcat...is there a permit you need for them to hunt or trap. He was also wondering about rattlesnakes...what all was involved to legally take one of them also. Had a client of mine ask because he was planning a family trip and figured he would have his fun as well...Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Texas hunting regulations

In TX you need a hunting license to hunt bobcats. If you plan to take it across TX state line, you will also need a cites tag for it. You can obtain a cites tag at any licensed bobcatpelt dealer or the Parks and Wildlife Department.

There are no regulation on hunting rattlesnakes, however, if you are planning to shoot them either with bow or firearm, a hunting license is required if it is on public land. You cannot collect rattlesnakes off the side of the road, since this is considered roadhunting, which is illegal in TX. On private land, and with the permission of the landowner, you can hunt all the rattlers you want. You still will need a hunting license for the bobcat, whether you hunt them on public or on private land.
