Coyote skin

I just got done reading another coyote story, and as I am having my own problem with just getting the membrane of the darn thing.I don't have a fleshing machine so I was wondering what is the easiest way to get that stubburn membrane of. I split the lips and such and it's in the pickle now, so my question is without a fleshing machine how clean is clean before the tanning stage?

I use the pressure washer on almost everything. Turkeys, small game, deer, etc. Works great.

Do you mean a pressure washer like for cars?

Thanks James, I also have a 2500 psi washer sound a heck of alot easier then using a razor blade. The washer doesn;t rip the skin tho?

Be careful

You can't use it like you would on your driveway. Clamp the skin to a piece of plywood and set it on an angle with the head toward the ground. When you start spraying the skin, keep the nozzle moving (don't hold it in one place) and spray at an angle (not straight on). You will quickly get a feel for it. I do deer, turkey, bobcat, fox, etc. No problems. I will usually cut the throttle on it way back when I'm doing turkey... You may need to do this on your first few mammals. Now, with all that being said, you will have to do the face by hand. If you are ballsy, you can try the face with the pressure washer. I newver use it on the face. On deer and thicker skinned mammals, you will still need to shave the hide down during the pickle. I have heard some people with 3000-3500psi can thin the hides down enough. I just can't get them thin enough with mine. Good luck.
