Scott,

Every state has it's own set of laws that pertain to the buying and selling of furs/specimens. Here in PA, we have a pretty good sized rule book on things you can and can't do. Not only are there State laws, there are Federal laws that apply to certain things. You can end up in some deep trouble if you are not careful. Did you get any kind of a hunting tag, or permit with the rug when you bought it? Do you have any type of documentation from the owner, stating that he was the one that shot the bear? In all reality, it could have been illegal for him to even sell the bear at a yard sale. Not trying to lecture you, I sure would hate to seem someone end up in trouble for something that they didn't know was illegal. Start with your State Wildlife division. Good Luck.

As I Understand It....

.....If you are in Alaska you can't sell anything related to bears. If you(and the rug) are in another state, it will depend on the laws of that state. It doesn't matter where the bear was taken, provided it was taken legally. Check with your state for the appropriate regulations.
