Baby critters

I'll be getting some baby critters this spring (coons, fox and coyote hopefully) and was wondering if I were to skin them and salt dry, would the dorsal incision be the way to go about it or should I wait to see what the individual wants? And do I just pour salt into the feet and tail? The reason why I ask is that the temperatures are warmer and the shipping for something frozen whole as far as overnight is outrageous. Also when skinning for lifesize, do you split the tail all the way or just a few inches? Thanks!

Sounds like you better sell them frozen. If I knew, that you knew what you were doing when skinning, I would have no problem at buying a skinned animal from you. I would hate to buy something that you learned skinning on. You should practice on a few of first and learn some cuts, and get real good at it, then we would be calling you for more critters. Some people want a dorsel a little bit off center to stay away from the natural part down the center of the back hair. If someone is real picky, they will want to skin it themselves. If you have them all skinned and dried, you would loose those picky customers that only buy frozen.

if they are actual babies you really should sell them frozen. Its almost a sure thing that the form will have to be cast and the bodies will be needed for it.
