Red fox ears ""white hair inside is slipping""

I've searched this one high and low. Fox was frozen and I thawed only enough to skin. I opened the ears up and salted inside split area. plus the entire skin. I split the tail. I was told not to waste time with a fox as they spoil quickly. I salted for 14 hours . Rinsed and placed the skin in a citric acid pickle at a ph of 1.5. Fine white hairs inside the ear are loose ""some of them". The red hair on the backside is fine. Where did I mess up?

Maybe you didn't

Sometimes when turning the ears you mess up the hair roots on the inside surface. If the hair isn't coming out in chunks don't worry about it, just be careful with this area until the mount is completed. Stop pulling on it!

Animals are like people. They are constantly losing hair all the time. When is the last time you got a hair in your fast food? Yuk!

Shedding is not slipping!

Shedding of hair can happen when the roots are cut, damaged or shaved.

Slipping is when the whole outer layer of epidermis peels away taking all the hair or fur with it. This is from bacteria. What is left is bald skin with whole patches completely bald.

Bald patches "one in each ear as big as a dime"

I'm getting ready to tan it now. I'm hoping it won't show to badly.
