Look at a house cat.

After reading your blasting, opinion of Tab Hinton's coyote forms, I would have thought you knew everything and had all the references. Just for giggles look at a house cat, you might learn something! I did!

cv0120

http://www.painetworks.com/ cut am paste this number into the search engine on painetworks "cv0120" or just type in bobcat

I just googled it and the above information is what google gave me.

Seriously why not look at a domestic cat?
The anatomy is there and the color is going to be very, very close. Since animals come in all different shades, its going to be close.
Are you hungup on color or anatomy?
Shade should not be any problem unless you are dealing with an albino or melanistic phase bobcat.

I want to ask you, if you were doing an open mouthed Sika deer, would you hold out for a Sike photo or use an American Elk and roll with it?
Same for open mouth fallow deer, a white-tail would be close enough again unless it was albino.

I have used those form of Mr. Hintons for some coyote and in my reference book "THE WORLD OF THE COYOTE" by WAYNE GRADY. I cannot see that those forms are any more incorrect that any other form on the market. I know almost every form I am having to modify to make them close. Like you I have a lot of reference books, also I mold the head of the animals in age class specific, this mean I have 3 different death mask of coyotes, bobcats and fox.

Sorry to rattle on so ling but I do not think my answer was smart BUTTED. Ut was rational and a very easy to find reference.
Mouth textures within a specie are going to be close, fox, coyote, wolf and domestic dogs, you know German Shepards, Labrador Retrievers even black bears mouth all look very, very much alike. So close infact I doubt that even most taxidermy judges could tell then difference, if all the had was pics. of the open mouth.

As a taxidermist you are buying the jawset in most cases, the tongue included. so the only area you have to worry about is the transition from lipline to jaw or gum, right? Then after is the painting.
Black umber takes care of most of that.

While this is not an North American Bobcat, it certainly can be used for mouth reference.
