Blonde squirrels?

I saw my first blonde squirrel -- a coat variation of a grey squirrel -- Friday, then saw three more on Saturday. My sister also saw her first blonde as a road kill earlier in the week. These were in three different areas of Texas! What gives?

they're not a uniform color; seems like a recessive gene.

I live in Wisconsin. In town, there are few fox squirrels, they are all grays. In my neighborhood we have two blondes running around.
