I am not a profesional buy any means but I am pretty good at bobcats I am not sure that it will turn out but it sounds like it would be ok if you decide you dont want to spend the money to get it mounted I might be willing to do it for you for alot less because i am not a pro all you would have to pay is the shipping to central florida and then if it did turn out I would charge you a minimal fee that way if it was bad it would not cost you much if interested email me and I can send you some pics of some work I have done. thanks.
Brennen take the cat to your taxidermist, he will be able to tell you if it is in mountable condition, he will not wast his time on it if its not salvageable.
4 hours in the shade and outdoors won't kill a bobcat's pelt enough to make it unmountable UNLESS the 2 hour truck ride back home was in full bright sun. The ears and tail-tip can cook and belly can go green.
When you skin it, look for signs of problems. A dark pinkish "brick red" color on the skin in ovals or circles in odd places, a greenish-white belly area, and a smell that's kind of like rotting animal, all point to potential big problems.
Hopefully you got the cat CITES tagged, otherwise you can't do anything with it.
Don't ship off your pelt. You risk loss big time. Take it to a local taxidermist, or put it up for the fur market. That means make sure you scrape all fat and meat off the skin! The pelt is nowhere near prime, this is JUNE, so don't expect more then a few dollars for it.
As long as you are the original owner of a legal bobcat you don't need the CITES tag-only required to transfer ownership-Aaron H.
In oregon all bobcats must be cites tagged in order to be legal ,you might want to check in your state.
Is Oregon on another planet? Convention for the INTERNATIONAL TRADE OF ENDANGERED SPECIES. What "international" border do you have to cross to get into Oregon from any other contiguous US state? And just when did bobcats get added to the ESA?
The mexican ssp. of Lynx rufus is on the ESA. This is how bobcat sellers online have their sales yanked, if the cites tag isn't disclosed in pictures and/or text.
POSSESSION is part of legal ownership and bobcats need to have a CITES tag on them to prove legal harvest and thus legal possession in almost every state where they can be legally taken.
For more info., consult the orange button, your state's Fish&Game, or fws.gov.
Or, do whatever you want - tag or don't tag.
But I do Know that Virginia, Georga, W. Va., Texas, and Arkansas. require that all bobcats taker be presented to the game department for tagging. some by a certain date. and some within a certain time frame. In all of these states they tag them with Cites tags. so you figure it out.
