My brother is going on a 17 day moose hunt in Alaska. No freezer and he can only take a limited amount of salt. He heard somewhere that spraying citric acid on the hides will help preserve them. Any truth to this, and if so, what strength solution should be used? Thanks for any advice.

a product called T.T.C Hide Cure. Im not sure what this is made of or how well it works, but check it out on their website. It says its 5 times more potent than salt. just an idea
I carry a product made by one of our local meat processors. It is powdered and primarily lemon juice and pepper. I carry a spray bottle and mix with water. It's made for spraying on meat mainly, to form a crusty quicker to help keep the flies from laying eggs. I also soak my game bags in it and let dry before the hunt. Works pretty good. If he's going on a float trip, keeping it in gamebags and hanging in the shade near the river helps. I've done numerous 100 mile floats and never lost a hide or meat.
