Does any one here use borax for small mammals (squirrels)? Granular or Powdered? I currently use DP on all my birds and small mammals (possum size to squirrel size). However, I don't like the way it packs and gets all wet and matted. I thought granular borax would prevent that. Would it work. Also, does DP work for fish? Borax does.

I don't understand why anyone would use DP for fish. Most DP's are mainly talc, that won't disolve in water, although it will suspend if you mix it enough. It's kind of like trying to mix Johnson's Baby Power in water. Of course, what little borax there is in the DP would disolve!
I guess it would work if applied dry, but then how are you going to get it into the hard to reach places. That's the reason for soaking a fish skin in the first place.

Borax will work for small animals and birds. I have some that have been mounted for over 30 years with borax. There is the big debate over the methods of preserving the skins. But, Borax will work.
