Just got done skinning two squirrels in the process I used bird fish preservative in helping the skinning. My question is can I put the skins in the freezer with the bird fish preservative on them, to work on them a later time. Or would that be like putting a salted cape in the freezer.

What the heck is bird fish preservative ? Do you mean DP ? If its DP and your not going to mount them right away , you better freeze it or they will shrink a little . Your suppose to use borax when skinning as it soaks up the blood and other fluids . Rick
doug, your discription of the preservitive you used is very strange. waht exactly is bird fish preservative. i agree with newbirdman. i wouldnt refreze it either, not knowing what you used. freezing it will for sure srink it. again i only use borax on squrells. like newbirdman said it soaks up the fluids, and it preserves the hide. you already did the hard part in skining and fleching. dont refreeze it now. i have kept them in the refrigerator for a day and been ok, but for me i just as soon do it right away. there easy litte things to do. good luck

I have to order the forms yet not sure to leave the skins in the refrigerator for 3 days or go back in the freezer with them. Mostly concerned with slippage. If I put them back in the freezer would you recommend me washing the borax off. I don't have squat for experience in mammals, I do mostly fish and birds.
Go ahead & wash good.Towel dry.REfreeze.Don't worry about the borax used for skinning. It will work OK.
appreciate it!
