I think I would avoid using fur bleach..you might have quite a mess on your hands. Although I'v never whitened a V patch...I do whiten hairs on my gameheads using my airbrush with lacquer paints. That way you can use thinner to remove unwanted overspray.
Good Luck with your project!

it can be done ( CAUTION )

Polar bear and Dall sheep are one thing, but to bleach BLACK fur is quite another. Most often you get a "burn fringe" where the hair that was black becomes tea colored instead of white. I wouldn't recommend it. As a note, if bleaching black bears were possible, imagine how many fake "polar bears" you'd see.

Touch Ups

It's actually really easy to bleach out black fur. Especially if you're trying to bleach white fur and there's black fur next to it. :)
If you are worried about the fur in the area right around the white spot, you simply purchase a furrier's touch-up or "tipping" marker and you touch up the spots you screw up, by dyeing them back to black.
It is a pain in the butt. It does work.
Bleaching can be accomplished with the usual "human quality" bleach kits.
Make sure to leave the bleach stuff on long enough to bring the color up past the "yellow" stage.
You may have to repeat the process a few times if you are trying to bleach out a black or dark animal.
Re-tanning after each bleaching is necessary because the bleach breaks the tan down, unless you are working with a chrome tanned skin.
