the fox and/or coon hide was given to you or you aquired it yourself ? Stupid I Know. Money can only change hands once on a hide? I ask the same question at the state show in the game warden sem.. "They Said" If I had my furbearers license I could get past the one time money deal. "BUT" they couldn't tell me who I could sell it to? All I got was well we're pretty sure you can sell it to another furbearer license holder? Got to love those NC Wardens.

Hope this helps, EJ

I set in the same seminar and a lot of what I came away with was about as clear as mud. There seem to be many ways to interpret the regulations and each seem to have their own. When the warden has to break out the book and then scratch his/their collective heads you know there's some confusion in interpretation. Just my two cents.

Brian, I spent a good bit of time laboring on this subject with one of those same guys. My understanding is this: Your regular taxidermy license permits you to buy any LEGAL HUNTED fox, possum, bobcat or coon(Not trapped but hunted). These can be sold by you as mounts provided you place under the mount base a permanant label stating your name, when you mounted the beast, and the hunters name. In NC these mounts cannot be resold but if you sell on ebay and the buyer can legaly sell mounts in their state- no problem. You must have a furbuyer's license to buy trapped critters and cites tags must be purchased and attatched to all cats, otter and fox in this state that "change ownership" (tagging requirements apply if hunted or trapped--you can remove the tag once you start the taxidermy process). You can tan skins from these trapped animals and resell to anyone as a tanned fur. I asked if this allows me to sell a trapped, tanned, mounted furbearer and I got a hesitant "yes". Like others have said you get different interpretations depending on which officer you talk to-this is only one of our problems in dealing with the wildlife commission. You are supposed to report any sales of unclaimed mounts each year upon reapplying for license, and I'm not sure but probably you are supposed to report these type sales too. Simple answer to your question...if the critters you have were taken by hunting you can sell them but not if they were trapped-go figure!-Aaron H.
