I'm mounting my first beaver.........................ANYWAY, can anyone tell me if the tail needs to be skinned? Do I need to buy an artificial tail, or inject preservative into it, or what? thanks alot.

your easist route would be to buy an artificial one if you can find one close to the size of the original,,,,most suppliers carry different sizes,,,,,however,,you can make a plaster mold of the tail that you have and cast it in liquid latex,,,,,paint it black and go over that with a brown,,you can skin it and tan it,,,and fill it with clay,,,but skinning it aint gonna go easy especailly your first try,,,,,,and beavers only have one tail....lol,,,,,,but injecting it is not really a good idea,,,,,hope this helps,,,,,,,good luck,,,,jim
Understand that beaver tails are almost all fat and very little red meat. I have skinned and tanned some in the past for use on various things and have always had problems with getting all of the fat off of them while fleshing.

Thanks for your help. I think I will go with the artificial. even though I hate using artificial parts, but it was a lifesaver on the turkey head, so I'm sure a beaver tail will work out ok
