Just place a wet towel over the area you want to soften.

Thanks George, I dont normaly use dp, so dont know much about it And I know about search I tried every way to look for 1hr. Thanks again for your (help) response

Can Dry perserve be rehydrated

I have applied dry perserve on a squirrel but did not have time to sew it to the form. It is laying flat and is pretty hard. can i rehydrate this and apply more preserve and mount. if so, any reccomendations on what to use to rehydrate. First time I ever did this, so I appreciate your help.

I'm certainly not experienced, but I'm pretty sure that you can do that with no problem. I'm reading a new taxidermy book right now by Todd Triplett (2003) which says you can rehydrate a DP pelt anytime you like...Also, I beleive good ol' water can be used for rehydration....Good luck, maybe someone with some more knowledge can contribute here...

Its NOT going to work the way you have it now, so go ahead and rehydrate it. But you might wanna finish this time, just in case! Good luck to you.

A product from Touchstone Taxidermy supply called Relaxo mixed with plain water works well for rehydrating. Just let skin dry until you get ready to rehydrate.
