I am a PhD student researching genetics at Stanford University in California. Right now I am studying coyotes, trying to find what gene makes the black ones black and the gray ones gray. I have a few DNA samples, but REALLY need some more--especially black ones. First, do you ever come across black coyotes in your taxidermy work? If you do, is there any way you would be able to contribute to my research by taking a small blood sample or piece of organ from the coyote you are preserving and send it to me? I would be very appreciative and would be sure to mention your contribution in my published articles. If you don't get black coyotes that frequently, do you know of anyone else I could contact? Thanks so much for your time.

Cant you just pull hair and use the follicles, like we do with deer? They tell us to pull them complete, dry them, and put in a clean envelope.
that any tissue would be adequate to provide DNA. since it is contained within the nucleus of every cell. if we are looking to compare genetic string sequences, I could understand the organs, as it is easier to extract there

I can try getting DNA from hair follicles, but I'm not sure it would give me enough for my research. Blood, saliva, or organ tissue would be much better. Thanks for recommening trammperman.com. I'll try posting there.
The black I have has no blood, organs or slaiva left. Best of luck finding your samples, trapperman is a good site.
