Soft Paw Pads

Submitted by Cascode on 11/1/05 at 9:38 PM. ( ) 63.249.23.185

I was wondering if the rough skin inside the footpads in mammals could be thinned, and if the skin was thin enough, would the tanned and oiled pads be soft and pliable like the rest of the skin?

Any suggestions on tools or techniques to do this?

The pad of animals are a different type skin cell that tends to be like cheese. When you "thin" it, it becomes even more fragile and will fall to pieces. On bears, for example, many times the pads just peel off after tanning. They are rubbery with very little elasticity. A person I alway held in the highest esteem was Lars Jensen and when he actually tubed out and tanned a cougar tongue, well, I'm still amazed, but he didn't try to make a wallet out of it.

That's good to know

I use Puppy Love Paw Pads on my dog who had trouble walking on bare floors. These paw pads work great. He gets up and down with no trouble and doesn't fall any more.
