How to tan a squirrel

Me and my friends went squirrel hunting with a pellot rifle. I want to use the skins for a project on the fur trade. Is there a simple way of tanning the squirrel. Do i just salt it and sun dry it? it's about a week old from today Nov 15 05. I took all the meat off but it smells slightly of decay.
Please Help

Don't know about your state but it's illegal in many states to use a pellet gun to hunt with.
Beside that your answer is in the search button. Just type in tanning tree rats et. and you'll get your legal answer.

Your squirrel smells because

it is already starting to decay and rot. You can't just leave it laying out and not expect it to go bad even if it is fleshed. You should have salted the squirrel right after the fleshing process. You might as well toss this one and get a new one (just make sure you go about it the legal way). In the meantime use the search button to learn about the tanning on squirrels.

Yep, some guns are just made...

for target practice, lol. Are you serious, Frank? Those 1000 plus fps pellet guns with a good scope are deadly on squirrels.

Those wooden rat traps or 110 connibears baited with mimi marshmallows work good too!

they just don't know

For those who scoff at air rifles as just being toys, try looking up Gary Barnes web site.By the way most states do allow hunting with air rifles.California has a caliber restriction .20 caliber and larger, not because .177 is not powerful, just the opposite, its blowing through the game acting like a solid .22 rimfire, and by the way ,I don't live in California,I live in Illinois and all the hundreds of rabbits and squirrels,if only they could speak to verify how effective these guns are,oh well they sure taste good .
