I have a client wanting to have a tanned big cat skin mounted.
How old would the skin need to be before you said no - too risky?

Hey Samantha. LOL I just got done with one that was 10 years old and passed away. Now the cat was being taken care of by the vet so I didn't guarantee the tanning cause of chemical that the vet could have used.
Any way the skin was real nice to work with. I took all the junk off with a wire wheel and followed all the tanning methods we use. The tan I used was EZ-100 with a double oiling and a breaking of the hide to make it ultra soft.
AS for age just check out the condition of the fura dn how it looks. Check for matted fur loose or missing fur and have this all written out and never ever make a guarantee on this type of work!

Try it..

.....Tanned over a year. Make SURE the owner understands that there is a risk in soaking up any tanned skin that has been tanned longer than that. You also would be wise in finding out where it was tanned and then contact the tanner to see if they recommend any special handeling. There are tanners that do tanning that will be useable for longer than that ONE YEAR guideline. But you do have to be very careful. This wqs coverd a few days ago.

So sorry..

I didn't realize that it was already tanned. Do what OLD FART said.
