Help! Freezing a fox rolled up in a ball

Submitted by Matt on 12/25/05 at 12:14 AM. ( )

I froze a skinned out fox by rolling it into a ball face first on wednesday and now it is saturday, 3 days later. I now read that i shouldnt have done that, it causes bacteria to grow by taking it so long to freeze. What should i do? Pull it out and flesh and do the tanning process. I do not own any stop rot yet, should i order some monday and take the fox out when i get it and apply it and start fleshing and tanning? Thanks

I would not worry about it, as long as, you put it into a deep freeze.

A fox is not as large as a coyote and does not have the insulating hair qaulities as a yote or other large animal. In the future lay the hide flat in the freezer if possible to chill it down, then roll it up. I do most of my hides like you did, but then again I have one monster deep freezer.
